  1. That is precisely why I had my first and only child at home with midwives. I was close enough to a hospital should anything go wrong but I felt very strongly that I did not want any unnecessary medical interventions. Particularly the line doctors use that you’ve been in labor too long and it’s stressful for the baby so we have to do a c-section. Translation: I’ve been working 16 hours I’m dead tired and I want to get the f*** out of here and go eat dinner. And the pain of labor it would be hard to reject an epidural that would take most all of the pain away. Nurse midwives who come to your home to help you give birth are not permitted to administer epidurals so I didn’t have a choice but to naturally give birth to my 8 pound to ounce gorgeous baby boy. Was it 18 hours of painful labor? You betcha! Would I do it any other way? Not a chance.
