I used to operate an independent, non-pharmacist owned drug store in a bad area of a major city in California. I ended up with a significant Latino patient base because I’m fluent in Spanish. So long as the script was legit and the med got paid for, I’d fill controlled meds for anyone that didn’t have a history of doc or pharmacy shopping, regardless of race. I took cash payment too because many didn’t have insurance and didn’t use credit cards. This may still be the case, especially for folks new to the US. Even if they have Medicaid, they pay cash. It’s a cultural thing. This is not the first time that I’ve heard of discrimination by a chain outfit. BTW, this was back in the ’90s, so it’s nothing new either.
