No Pharmacy Gal did not die… but she has shut down her blog… another public voice for pharmacy silenced.. A quote from her “it wasn’t fun anymore”… There has been a growing chorus by many Pharmacist if this is the time to start a Union for Pharmacists… I have read/heard comments – especially from Senior Pharmacists – if the profession itself really still exists. Sure, we still have some 300,000 licensed Pharmacists and the numbers are growing to the point where a serious surplus is almost guaranteed.
A profession is like a huge puzzle … in pharmacy’s case… a puzzle with 300,000 pieces… the more pieces that are AWOL.. the less you can tell what the picture actually looks like.. As pieces of the professional puzzle disappears (retirement & death).. unless they are replaced with similar pieces and the same dedication to make the picture provide a clear image… eventually the profession will be unrecognizable.
Our profession has been around for millennia, but the profession itself could become nothing more than a vague memory in a couple of generations.
Any profession is only as strong as the collective professionals within the profession.. if more members of a profession chose to stand down/stand back rather than stand up for the betterment of the profession and themselves… The outcome for the profession is pretty predictable, a profession will slowly deteriorate along with it influence on our society. Narcissism has no place within a profession.

Pharmacy, as a profession, is in a precarious state. Pharmacists are being morphed into ’employees’ with no control over their profession or their destiny. The ‘profession’ has no leadership. Steve, I agree that pharmacy, as a profession, could become nothing more than a vague memory.
