“The moral test of a government is how it treats those who are at the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those who are in the shadow of life, the sick and the needy, and the handicapped.” – Hubert Humphrey

Hi folks: I got that interview with Dr Hochman. He was board-certified in psychiatry, and he began specializing in pain, because pain simply drives people nuts if not treated. He practiced in Houston. Many of his geriatric patients hurt all the time and the pain was inducing dementia and depression. Fix the pain, and the patient finds new reasons to go on living…who’d have guessed it?
Frankly, the myth he discusses in this piece, is all a matter of envy. Somehow, we got the idea that we work for a living, out of fear. Take away the fear and provide something to subsist on, and nobody will want to work. So what are us workin’ folks missing out on?
That’s how the myth works.
Actually, a lot of us work at something we love to do. We get paid just enough to keep doing it.
But those who live in fear and come to depend on it for motivation, have no idea how society would function without fear. They envy irresponsible people. They hate those, who seem to have succeeded at having nothing to do. And they don’t want to believe that sick people are actually sick, because, good Lord, that would be a whole new set of problems to fear, if it were really possible to have a disease that caused severe pain for no apparent reason!
There’s a denial epidemic spreading. Gullible people fall victim to it. Then cause problems for everybody else. Particularly for patients who’ve got to deal with pain.
The reason I began to #GivePainAVoice, is that we need to teach these dumb gullible pain deniers, that a life of illness is not to be envied or desired.
That wasso interesting. Where does he practicecand why isnt he out there speaking more. When part D was passed, I was led to believe there was a huge govt rebate (aka kickback) similar to state medicaid on drug prices to gets drug costs down and approved on the various part d plans.
It is my understanding that he died a few years ago from kidney/stomach cancer
