Can you imagine this in corporate pharmacy in america ?

Here is a published article concerning NECC & Ameridose… at last count deaths are now up to 15 with nearly 200 being “sick”

Technicians and pharmacists at Ameridose, a drug manufacturing company neighboring the New England Compounding Center (NECC), which shares owners with Ameridose, told The New York Times they had safety concerns about the drugs they were producing.”

“Five former employees from Ameridose and one from the NECC described companies that took shortcuts, compromising safety for efficiency. Workers at the pharmacy also complained of being forced to conduct tasks they were not trained or qualified for.”

“The emphasis was always on speed, not on doing the job right,” said another employee, who lost his job for expressing concerns about safety. “One of their favorite phrases was ‘This line is worth more than all your lives combined, so don’t stop it.’”

Imagine a Pharmacist who complains about safety to management getting fired… after all it is just his/her license and their livelihood on the line. I wonder if any of these Pharmacists put their concerns in writing… if not… it is just their word against who ever in management they spoke with… and we all know that those in management always does what is in the best interest of the patient over what is good for the corporation.

Imagine a corporate pharmacy hiring or making staff that are not properly trained or qualified do a specific task or function.. after all, the BOP is never going to hold the permit holder responsible for anything.. because the BOP holds the PIC responsible for what goes wrong… It is has reported that the PIC – who was part owner of NECC – has surrendered his MA license.

I have only seen where a couple of BOP’s… – out of the reportedly 46 states where NECC had mail order licenses – do anything – at least publically – about those mail order licenses granted to NECC.. Is this just a lack of motivation or just apathy ?
