Deaths from ILLEGALLY PRODUCED AND SOLD ON THE STREET

‘Alarming’ rate of overdoses in Sacramento area

Who believes that the DEA and anti-opiate groups will somehow try to fix blame these deaths on the “over prescribing” of opiates by healthcare practitioners.  Even when the number of opiates Rxs dispensed annually would only provide a small percent of the estimated 106 million chronic pain pts with what is considered “appropriate therapy”

(CNN) —Health and law enforcement officials think counterfeit pain pills are the source of a spike in overdose deaths in the Sacramento, California, area.

Forty-two people have been treated for overdoses and 10 have died since March 23, according to the DEA’s San Francisco division.

“The overdoses are occurring at an alarming rate,” the DEA said.

The agency thinks contaminated drugs are responsible. On Tuesday it opened an anonymous tip line. Anyone with information is asked to call 530-722-7577.

Health officials believe the cases are linked to Norco pills sold on the street. Norco is a pain medication containing hydrocodone and acetaminophen. However, lab tests on some of the pills in question found they did not contain hydrocodone or acetaminophen.

“The lab was able to identify the pills as containing fentanyl instead. This indicates that they are really fentanyl pills (street drugs – counterfeit) that have been made to look like Norco,” said the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services.

Fentanyl can be lethal. It is 25 to 50 times more potent than heroin and 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, according to the DEA.

An overdose of fentanyl can sometimes be reversed with a drug called naloxone, also known as Narcan.

Symptoms of an overdose include trouble breathing, blue skin, vomiting, loss of consciousness and pupils that are the size of a pinpoint.

Officials are reminding residents to use only prescription drugs that have been prescribed for them and to only take pills that have come from a reputable pharmacy.

  1. Actually the DEA created the very cartel monster that justifies their existence. If there is nothing for the DEA to protect us from, they become irrelevant and float off into the air like the morning mist at the first touch of the rising sun. This is all political theater being played out with real lives of real people.

    • Who wants to give up the good pay and benefits that come with DEA employment? Not to mention the NYPD . . . http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/05/nyregion/undercover-officers-ask-addicts-to-buy-drugs-snaring-them-but-not-dealers.html

I quote from the nytimes.com article:
“One juror said that what troubled the jury the most was that a nine-person narcotics squad — which included two undercover officers, several investigators and supporting officers — would bring a case against a single addict.”

“’The big underlying question is why a nine-person buy-and-bust team did not follow him to the dealer where he got it from,’ the juror, Scott Link, said in an interview. ‘Everyone was scratching their heads, wondering what the heck is wrong with our system.’”

And all nine can retire after 20 years with nice six figure retirements. Add the prosecutor, clerk-of-court, judge, and jailer to the mix and you have a great system for creating good paying public sector jobs. I wonder if their professional organizations (such as National Sheriffs’ Association and National Association of Chiefs of Police) roam the halls of Congress and state houses lobbying against decriminalization and legalization . . .?

  2. The DEA has created the demands by taking legally prescribed medications away from people who need them. The DEA’S arch nemesis, the cartels have created a supply. The only problem is that the cartels aren’t trying to create medications, they are trying to create addiction which in turn spawns profit.
The DEA and it’s sister agencies have created a monster and they are too stupid to realize it.
DISMANTLE THE DEA BEFORE THEY KILL US ALL!

  3. “‘Alarming’ rate of overdoses in Sacramento area”

Where’s the headline “Alarming rate of overdoses from counterfeit pills in Sacramento area?” We all know that a large majority of people just skim the headlines and form their opinion. Every one of these headlines are extremely misleading. The media knows exactly what they’re doing when they do this. Unfortunately, so many in our country refuse to even read, then research before they form their opinions and spout them out.

And don’t forget the ones who immediately believe the fentanyl in these pills and laced into heroin is the FDA approved prescription fentanyl … you know, that stuff that doctors hand out like candy (*eye roll* *sarcasm*). I STILL see that ignorant comment everywhere. I almost asked a few who stated that if they could come up with a more creative comment because that one was getting old, as it is most definitely never prescribed like they think it is. I have a saved notepad response to these articles that explain what is going on and just copy/paste it into the comment section.
