A new report says Michigan’s death rate from suicide, alcohol and drug use is poised to skyrocket over the next decade.

The report, Pain in the Nation, examines the effect of rising death rates related to drug use, alcohol abuse and suicide and the large need for users to seek alcohol detox center.

According to the report, Michigan’s death rate from these three preventable reasons is expected to soar 44% between now and 2025. That would lift Michigan’s death rate to 20th in the country.

The Trust for America’s Health and Well Being Trust released the report today.

The report’s authors say a more “robust” approach to the problem, encompassing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of those at risk is needed.

  1. Not at all shocking to the pain community, who are being harmed by the misguided efforts to restrict or deny access to pain care, in the face of the heroin and fentanyl crisis. I’m sure the numbers will soar in all states affected by restrictive legislation and policy changes… Isn’t it some 28 states at this point, who have practically codified the CDC guidelines in some way? Look out America… this is your government at work….

  2. Pain management patients that have been effectively treated for lifetime pain management issues with a tailored, effective AND safe dosage of opioid medication as the very last treatment for our afflictions are NOT surprised at all with the “findings” of the Michigan report. All pain management patients already knew that lifetime pain at an intolerable level could not ne endured.. A bear caught in a trap will chew its foot off in the attempt to free itself rom the pain caused by the trap.
