CVS makes more mistakes while claiming – per the article – such prescription mix-ups are “rare occurrences,
This story – IMO – is so full of holes…
The pharmacy has acknowledged improperly dispensing Tamoxifen instead of chewable fluoride tablets to children in as many as 50 families between Dec. 1 and Feb. 20
Mike DeAngelis, CVS Caremark’s director of public relations, has said that “most of the families we have spoken to did not indicate that their children received any incorrect pills.” No injuries related to the mix-up have been reported.
First they say that as many as 50 families got Tamoxifen… then they say that no family “indicated” that their children received any incorrect pills.. was their amnesia caused by some money changing hands and a confidentially agreement?
The pharmacy must provide the information by Wednesday and company representatives must appear before division officials for questioning under oath on Friday, an order signed by division Director Thomas R. Calcagni said. He said in the order that the division wants to look into whether any laws were violated.
Who came up with the idea that as many as 50 families got the wrong med?… Isn’t mis-filling a Rx VIOLATING A LAW… start out with MIS-BRANDING and go from there.
According to this a USA TODAY article in 2008 .. there were two Walgreen’s and one Rite Aid execs sitting on this board… lets see if they protect their “brother chain”.
MY money is on a similar outcome that you see when police investigate mis-conduct by fellow officers… exonerated from any wrong doings… Isn’t that what CVS does every time that it pays a fine… does so… to save litigation expense without admitting any wrong doing…
I wonder if there will be any investigation of all the 14 hr days their Pharmacists are working or all the timer metrics they have to meet/beat to keep their job?
IMO .. this will either quitely be “forgoteen” because none of the families involved will be able to produce identify that their kids got the wrong med… and/or CVS will come out with some BS about how they have/use industry leading standards/systems and this was a rare incident… and that a Pharmacist is a professional and would not knowingly do anything to harmm a patient… we have no filling/speed quotes… and within a year the Pharmacist(s) and/or techs involved will be GONE for some nebulous reason…

CVS is now claiming that it was a “restocking issue”… what is next … a “training issue” or the typical lack of training.. It will be interesting if the BOP actually does anything.. It will also be interesting if all of this falls down on the PIC and the permit holder is left standing on the curb watching the PIC “take the hit by the bus”
