Failure to treat pts’ pain when dying of cancer can have consequences

In the early 90’s there was two different docs in California that were sued because they refused to properly treat the pain of two different pts – so pts wouldn’t become addicted .  They were sued by the relatives of these pts and BOTH doctors were found guilty – NOT OF MALPRACTICE – but of SENIOR ABUSE. Each family was awarded ONE MILLION +.

  2. I’m old enough to remember when your primary care physician could have priveleges at the hospital you were at, and follow your treatment. Now, you’re at the mercy of some strange person who doesn’t know you or all of your history.

Anyone remember the old movie, Terms of Endearment” where Shirley McLaine fought the hospital to get pain meds for her daughter? Only now, it doesn’t matter how much you tell or scream. You have no control over your or your loved ones healthcare!

I don’t know if it’s better to have Hospice at home to get Palliative Care, but you definitely need to have a talk with your Dr. to find out.
