Walgreens announced in July that they were purchasing a 144 store chain USA DRUG that operates under various names.. even though they have yet to close the deal… according to this article they plan on closing 76 of the stores… which would suggest that there is going to be another 150+ RPH’s in the unemployment line.
Not so many years ago… Walgreen’s growth was totally ORGANIC… according to their website
In fiscal 2011, we opened a total of 261 new stores and acquired 36 locations, for a net increase of 164 stores after re-locations and closings.
From these stats… for every two stores opened or acquired … they CLOSE ONE !
Has the market place passed a saturation point for pharmacies?

Not before salaries fall and some pharmacist goes postal at the end of a 14 hour shift. I’m placing my bet on a CVS pharmacist.
Not much longer! Mail order is taking over, also. Community and retail pharmacy are shrinking, but the workload is growing exponentially.
