Here is how “your silence can cost you ” !

 

Some of us have often stated that we MUST express our concerns – IN WRITING –  to upper management about work place environment that we know are contributing to patient safety and med errors.

The typical response from RPH’s is “if I speak up … I will get fired…”

The graphic to the right depicts what not speaking up can cause….

The right scale shows what is at risk if you speak up …

The left scale shows what is at risk if you are part of a major accident/med error and the outcome of a lawsuit and what is at risk.

The media is increasing their focus on med errors… the attorneys are not going to be far behind… most personal injury claims are settled.. only the most serious go to court… but if someone dies… you could be the next Eric Cropp… not only lose your license and your livelihood … but convicted of manslaughter and serve six months in jail, because you did not catch a error that a technician did.

Where Eric worked… it is mostly business as usual… can’t say the same for Eric’s family or the family of the little girl that died.

When is the last time that you have heard about a corporate permit-holder getting their ticket yanked for a major error?… or a death?
