House Republicans Plan Legislative Hearings As First Step to Fight Opioid Crisis

The House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold its first hearing on Feb. 28 to address opioid abuse in the U.S. Lawmakers noted the committee will likely require additional funding from Congress to draft legislation to focus on law enforcement, insurance coverage issues and public health and prevention programs. “It’s my top priority as chairman of the committee to get rid of this deadly epidemic,” said committee Chairman Rep. Greg Walden.

  1. Here comes the federal government down pour on pain relief. I bet by the time they are done nearly every Committee on the Hill will have had an anti opioid hearing? Please join your state pain advocacy group and get involved fast!! We are running out of time to be heard.

  3. Education for Health Care Providers is what is needed. Chronic pain, acute pain, and addiction are three separate issues. Grouping these together and punishing the Chronic pain patient is inhumane. Focus on reduction of the amount given to acute pain patients, perhaps addiction could be lowered? Punishing the Chronic patient is certainly not the answer.

  4. Sure the VA and other providers take pain patients who are on opioid medication take them on an “individual basis” that’s why so many people are forced off their medication and are committing suicide! If you believe that I have some ocean front property in the Sonoran desert to sell you!!
