Another prescriber friend’s email…
Today I had a patient JH, who presented with vomiting and flank pain, hydronephrosis on ultrasound and blood in the urine. He was clearly having a kidney stone. He was miserable, and ill. On no previous prescriptions.
Otherwise healthy guy 65 years old. I ordered him multiple medications including Percocet tens. He’s going on a cruise in three days for his 45th wedding anniversary.
When his wife went to Safeway to pick up the prescriptions, she was told “this doctor is prescribing medications illegally. We won’t fill this. The wife came back to Urgent Care Plus and she was upset and irate.
She had never been treated so rudely to buy health facility in her life. She will be making her own complaints. She felt I had been severely libeled and slandered. I tend to agree. I believe it is time to take legal action.
I do not believe the local pharmacist will stop in there progressive formation of a lynch mob.
I think they only respond to force and right now the only force they’re getting is coming from the DEA and their corporate offices.
Let me know when we should start this process this would include CVS Walgreens Osco and Now Safeway.
I can completely relate to this man… I have had kidney stones before – they are no fun – and working on year 46 of our marriage and I also know how expensive those cruises can be.. Under similar situation.. having to go on a cruise sick or have to skip it.. and lose all that money… Over #10 Oxycodone/APAP 10mg/325mg… I am not sure who I would share my pain with …

I was wondering when this was going to happen to someone leaving the country with other pharmacy available to fill at. I also took a trip and my pharmacist knew I going over a week ahead of time. She submitted my prescriptions as usual because I had been getting them filled just fine, but this store was just bought out and now was Winn Dixie. They refused me that day I went to the grocery store to pick it up and found out the PIC of Winn Dixie refused to send the meds to the pharmacist working at the counter. She said they bounced it back and resubmitted. She said she would hope to have it by the next Tues. Now… This was on a Friday and I was packed, my horses were just boarded and I needed to leave right then! I was so angry! I was only going out of state and I wondered what would happen if somebody was taking a cruise, and had to miss it because of this nonsense? I would definitely be very pissed! I would want to sue the store and the PIC of that pharmacy for lost money for the tickets , pain and hassle. I would also fie complaints with each entity I could find. That includes the BOP and the ADA.
Treatment that pain patients are receiving, is horrible! We ALL must FIGHT Back and do it with angry PASSION!
My goodness, that is slandering a doctor with a valid license. The doctor should suing too, after all it his reputation on line! Several in DFL have filled suits against pharmacies right here in FL and have won! I sure hope this patient didn’t miss their cruise and found a pharmacy somewhere to fill it.
This has got to STOP! If we could have had more participants show up at the rally at the FL state capital back in 2012 it could have made a huge statement! This might not have spread to other states. We could have set an example by fighting back immediately back then! Still it’s never too late, if just people would get angry enough and just get involved and do it! Do it all! File every complaint and do these rallies. “Fight For Pain Care Action Network”, is all for fighting back, we just need committed people. The media will report these and all state and federal officials would see were putting up with discrimination and hopefully then?? An attorney would get involved after seeing all this on the news!
**I feel along with all these complaints? That more states need capital rallies to show that we the PEOPLE will fight back for our RIGHTS to have proper, timely pain care and that includes pain medications.
Write a complaint to pharmacy board. That is the real authority that pharmacists fear. Even if they only get a letter of concern, they know they’re on notice. Only file complaint if pharmacist claims MD did something illegal. Work in conjunction with offended patient.
It’s that or a lawsuit that would be hard to prove.
I’m a pharmacist and I know what can help. Why these pharmacists think they can deny with impunity, I do not know.
Are you asking us to let you know when to proceed?????why?this should, have been started years ago when this discrimination began in Florida, now everyone else is joining in and its probably never gonna end now that so many are doing this. Let me know if you find an,attorney, ive tried multiple times years ago until last year none will sue them and i dont understand why.
