There is more and more information coming out about all of these major compounding pharmacies… producing quantities that would suggest that they are “compounding” in manufacturing quantities.
The information has now come out that ONLY TWO STATES that actively monitor compounders (Texas & Missouri)..
There is more information coming out about FDA, MA BOP & NECC…
FDA has sent a letter to NECC in 2006 to cease and desist producing producing in bulk.. Do we know if that letter was copied to the MA BOP?
There was a VP/RPH that was working for the sister company (Ameridose) that was on the MA BOP… should that person have known what was going on at NECC and that they did not have the appropriate licensing?
One would think that the inspector from MA BOP came to the NECC facility… they do inspect pharmacies in MA… on a regular basis?
If you were an inspector and walked into this facility and saw equipment that you did not see at the typical pharmacy.. would you ask questions… was the inspector so intimidated that he/she didn’t know what equipment was in place was used for.. that he/she didn’t want to appear ignorant about his/her job… that they just overlooked all the commercial or near commercial level equipment?
I am sure that we have similar problems in other states with other BOP’s… this particular state BOP has been caught asleep at their desk… or incompetent in doing their job.
Is being incompetent or apathetic make them complicit in all these meningitis infections and deaths approaching 30?
How far removed is this from someone doing something illegal and someone gets killed… even if you are just sitting in the “get-a-way car”.. you are held just as guilty as the person causing the death as part of the illegal act.
NECC was producing product outside of their licensing limits… doesn’t that make all the product and the production itself – ILLEGAL ?
If the FDA has known since 2006 of this illegal activity… and the MA BOP knew or should have known that they were operating outside of their licensing limits… Is all those bureaucrats.. in the intervening 6 years… complicit in these deaths?
Where was the ethics and morals of all those RPH’s who worked for that company… was their absences of ethics absolved every two week with a paycheck?
A few years ago in Ohio.. the death of a 2 y/o from a technician’s IV mistake… caused the RPH on duty to not only lose his license, but charged and convicted of manslaughter and ended up in jail/prison. It may have been published … but I have never seen the PIC/DOP name of this hospital pharmacy…. and to the best of knowledge… the RPH on duty was the only licensed professional that had any actions against his license.
They say that history repeats itself… Is the USS Pharmacy on a similar path as the RMS Titantic… the band keeps playing while the ship sinks?
Who thinks that Pharmacists will show up on the next list of most respected professionals… used car salesmen/attorneys may be ahead of us this time around.
