“The moral test of a government is how it treats those who are at the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the aged; and those who are in the shadow of life, the sick and the needy, and the handicapped.” – Hubert Humphrey

It appears that data analytics are the main tool being used now.
Does anyone know if this is the only tool being used in the dragnets?
If this is the case, some prescriber will always be at the “top”. Along with being a massively expensive grasping at straws, there is no consideration of underlying illness/injury of the patients being treated or of genetic variance of medication metabolism..only “a number.” Using the PMDR and other data analytics from CMS/Medicaid to “target” physicians is mis-use of the system and is causing a grave chilling effect on prescribing for meaningful pain care. Patients and their doctors continue to suffer.
It is apparent that these investigators and prosecutors don’t understand or know how to practice medicine. This practice of medicine by non-medically trained lawyers, prosecutors, DEA agents and politicians has to stop. Does a medical degree mean nothing anymore?
Below is from a report from Bloomberg Law from 2018-it outlines the various Federal and State efforts to stem the “crisis.”
” Over the past eighteen months, DOJ has emphasized the role data analytics will play in such investigations. In August 2017, Attorney General Jeff Sessions established a new unit that will deploy data to identify and prosecute individuals contributing to the epidemic. The Opioid Fraud and Abuse Detection Unit assigned prosecutors to each of 12 participating federal districts. In November, he ordered every U.S. Attorney to designate an Opioid Coordinator to select cases for criminal enforcement, in part by using data analytics. In January 2018, Sessions declared that a “surge”of DEA investigators will use transaction reports to target pharmacies and prescribers that are “dispensing unusual or disproportionate amounts of drugs.”
“The DOJ will also continue to use traditional theories of liability that it has successfully applied in non-opioid cases…”

Everyone should read Ronald Libby’s book Criminalization of Medicine. These attacks have been going on for 20 years. The government has an agenda. People come up with the same ideas over and over, but they have been tried and failed over and over. We have to stop the insanity (doing the same thing repeatedly expecting a different result). The result won’t change. The government will win as long as we do. These ideas aren’t new. People ignore new ideas. And so they suffer.
