I have created a very simple survey… I remember surveys published in professional journals over the years… with this type of question(s)  asked… of course you are never going to get a 100% who are happy with the career choice that they have made… but.. I may have missed it.. but .. I don’t see this type of question asked any more…

Could it be that the number of RPH’s that would repeat or recommend pharmacy as a career has sunk below 50%?

The only demographics that is kept by this survey, is the age group that you ADMIT belonging to…  I have made the age groups to represent roughly the decades since graduation and becoming licensed.

There is a increased discussion if the huge debt most students incur to attained that coveted “licensed Pharmacist” status… is more of one becoming an indentured servant…

  1. I would recommend learning the body of knowledge that encompasses the training of a pharmacist, for sure.

I might not recommend the career choice to someone that had to rely on it for sole income, but the job would do if necessary to put up even with draconian work conditions. At this stage in my life, with many staff experiences, I feel I have learned a lot and heard a lot, and have invested myself in enough opportunities to feel fairly confident that I have a valued work ethic, flexibility (owe no one) and knowledge that I have choices.

As a student starting out in the 70’s, attending community college for pre-pharm, transferring quite easily to a good school of pharmacy (not the ‘best’ or the ‘oldest’ or the ‘most prestigious’ but good, thorough with a student:teacher ratio of about 35:1), working several jobs through school and a child to care for, I feel as if I was a pharmacy student at the best of times.
