INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 12, 2016)– Three people, including an IMPD officer, were arrested Tuesday in connection with an ongoing narcotics investigation.

Christopher Reed, 33, Victoria Purdy, 41, and Nikolas Layton, 35, face preliminary charges including suspicion of dealing in cocaine, conspiracy to deal cocaine, dealing in a controlled substance and possession of cocaine.

Layton is a full-time IMPD officer. He is a 10-year veteran currently assigned to the hit-and-run investigation unit. Layton is also the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton.

IMPD Chief Troy Riggs suspended Layton without pay and will recommend he be terminated.

Sheriff John Layton issued the following statement:

This is obviously a heart breaking moment as a parent, especially as a parent who is also the Sheriff, and even more as the father of a police officer. I have never tolerated this kind of alleged behavior in law enforcement. I have full faith in the criminal justice system, and I feel certain that justice will be done.

  1. The government is slowly trying to make pain medication illegal (that’s what it’s coming to), well I think they first need to take control of the abundance and abuse of the already illegal drugs.. First, putting all these laws on the opiates/pain medications, is only hurting those with true chronic pain and terminal illnesses… They say it’s because of all the overdoses, well the people who didn’t need it were the ones OD’ing and those are people who are just gonna find another drug to abuse whether it’s heroin, cocaine, meth…the ones who abused opiates, we’re ones who didn’t need them… Yes there should be laws… That way people can’t run to the doctor with a little ache and get pain meds.. That would limit the abusers from access.. Then just like they are now, they would find another drug to abuse.. But the way it is going, not only is it limiting access of pain med to drug abusers it is limiting access to those who really need it..thats where the difference can be seen.. Us true chronic pain sufferers are suffering not running to other drugs… But there is law enforcement abusing illegal drugs like cocaine, meth, anything they can get ahold of.. All I’m saying is the government has a lot worse problems to worry about than finding ways to deny legitimate treatment and pain relief for honest citizens suffering from true chronic pain and terminal illnesses… Seems to me they are descriminating against people with illnesses and paving a way for the addicts, drug users/abusers, and drug dealers with other illegal drugs.. They are so consumed and obsessed with pain meds they are overlooking real problem drugs… Users and dealers of those drugs know it..ive seen more and more of areas where law officials are on the wrong side of the law… Because they think they can get by with it.. Since everyone is so focused on doctors and pain meds… Personally I think law enforcement and govt officials should face tougher punishment for illegal drug activity because they should be held to higher standard since they have so much access and given so much authority and trust… It just goes to show, some of them are no better than you average street junkie… Well there’s my rant as though it does any good…i may suffer in chronic pain, but I won’t become a junkie.
