Narcan, the drug that reverses the effects of certain drug overdoses, continues to save lives on the streets of York County.
The district attorney said Thursday that North Hopewell Township police used it to save a life. And just hours after a town hall meeting on heroin awareness Wednesday night in Hanover, two police officers found a 28-year-old woman unconscious at her home on South Street. She was in cardiac arrest from a heroin overdose. They used Narcan to revive her.
At least six lives have been saved in York County since police began carrying Narcan last week.

With side effects like these, I highly doubt that Narcan/naloxone perpetuates addiction.
Kim…If you research online, you would be amazed at the forums available of people who discuss getting around the abuse deterrence formulations to get to the active ingredient. The mice have already bypassed the mousetraps to get to the cheese and no matter what the FDA or govt does to decrease the abuse, there will always be that 1 in 10 of the population that will abuse SOME SUBSTANCE. And they will always be one to two steps ahead of any deterrences put in place. Prohibition fails. We should look to Portugal as a possible model. Read what they have done.
It is a alternative to OD deaths. If needle sales are legal, shouldn’t narcan be OTC, BTC?
AS a addendum, would it be too costly to add abuse deterrent alternative formulas to allay injection related or powdered snorting among others. I understand they merely may take PO an additional amount. However injection of Restoril is now the trend in England. Rather than inhibition (prohibiting) of CIV’S,CIII’s + HCP’s to CII, we could improve the CURES system and of course the insurance will not like the abuse deterrent costs. The choice is clear. Blame the Govt or the providers or semi legality of legally obtained Rx’s. Xanax seems overly utilized regardless of the usefullness. In combination W/ others the synergistic sum is overly often the case. The question is the remainer the best we can now do?
