It would seem that those in our society would believe that they can’t go low enough to find ways to help make sure that the war on drugs keeps getting funded by Congress.

Suicide is impulsive… here we have a former addict… that was separated from his long time partner and three kids.. They claimed that there was 50 bags of Heroin — all but 2-3 untouched – found in his apartment. Apparently he was definitely on a “binge”

Obviously his life was on a downward slide… starting with being separated from his long time partner and kids.. which would depress most people.. Throw another depressant into the mix – Heroin .. mixed with Fentanyl and the impulsive decision to commit suicide is a strong possibility.

The question remains.. how does a autopsy determine the difference between an impulsive suicide and a accidental overdose ? Well, if you believe that drug abuse/addiction is not a disease.. but.. is a choice.. and there is no suicide note .. then if must have been an accident. And it takes less time & trouble to come to this conclusion… can’t blow the dept’s budget determine if your conclusion is right/wrong.

I know a young man who attempted suicide… left a note.. was going to drive his car to a semi-remote area.. with Ambien and alcohol.. he was going to take care of those monkeys on his back and/or the demons in his head.. His timing was a little off.. he took the Ambien before he started driving… he was 20-30 minutes away from the semi-remote area that he was headed toward… Well.. we all know how quick a onset that this hypnotic has… which resulted in him falling asleep at the wheel and totaling his car..  The suicide note.. not withstanding.. the system charged with a DUI.. and took away his license for 1+ yrs. Did “the system” see to that he got some mental health treatment… NOPE!

Collectively, we refuse to acknowledge that our societal morals/ethics is still based on those puritanical roots and principles that this country was founded on.. that is unless the bureaucrats can figure out how to create a tax stream revenue from such things … just look at the current trend ..at the state level .. to make MJ legal… while still being illegal at the Federal level.  Could this be because the Feds can print money and the states don’t have the same option to pay its bills?

  1. it was mentioned on a news show that the 50 – 70 ‘bags’ he had on hand would have amounted to about a 1 week supply. i dont buy the suicide angle and i do believe it was accidental. having said that, he just die. he still himself. it was his drug of choice and his choice to use it. he had been in rehab before so he was aware that there was a way to get help.
also, i’m wondering about the use of the term ‘partner’ to describe the person from whom he was separated. I’ve seen this in all the articles written on the subject and that’s typically a phrase used in gay relationships. i’m not judging and really dont care one way or the other but if there are children one might assume a woman was involved.
he was a very good actor but as many in that profession end up, he was overly full of himself and seemed to think of himself as higher and mightier than the typical fat, ugly guy. another rich kid done in by his own money.

  2. I saw cable news commentary yesterday that implied that the DEA’s crackdown on pharmacy supply quantities had potentially resulted in increased use of street alternatives. Report also emphasized that 75% of legal opioid overdoses result when the medication is combined with alcohol use.

    • In this instance I just don’t “buy it” as being the reason he chose heroin. In this instance I am not going to point the finger at anyone but the drug dealer who took advantage and the person himself. He knew he could ask for help, he knew where to go for help. HE chose NOT TO do that. For whatever reason. And with the quantity found in his apartment … sorry again ..but no go. He had intent to harm himself in my opinion.

  3. I seem to be alone in feeling not so sorry for this man. In various articles, “close friends” say that PSH had been on narcotic medications for an injury suffered some time ago but was unable to get over them and graduated himself to heroin. Now this fact alone makes me suspicious. Here is a famous well respected actor. It would seem unlikely that he would be unable to find a doctor who for whatever reason would have given him a prescription for the original narcotic that he was on. So … he made a conscious choice to purchase an illegal drug from the streets. He goes to rehab. The unfortunate separation from his partner and his children is reasonably catastrophic emotionally and spiritually. We or least I do not know why he and his partner separated. So feeling low is to be expected. Now, I am not pointing fingers or looking to blame. It just strikes me as odd that given that he was experiencing what is for most people, a very difficult time, that those who were around him some prior to his demise, at no time? ever saw or felt that here was a man who was suffering? Were they so blind and numb to this sensitive person? Perhaps he didn’t let his guard down or show his vulnerability. Ok. I get that. I wasn’t aware that he had 50 bags of heroin in his apartment, but even the 2 I did know about … say to me … this was not an accident. He fully intended to end his life. I agree that it was just the easy way out for the coroner to declare it an accidental death. Scaringly similar to the death of Glee star Cory Montieth. Another “accidental” death. I feel very sad for his partner and his children, friends and all that knew Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Loss is difficult but no more so than when it is unexpected, and worse still, when it occurs at the hand of the deceased, intentional or not. We can be grateful, I suppose, that this man’s acting/gift is with us forever more on film. I just feel a sadness but not because of his death persay.
