  1. If CPPs are left untreated and poorly managed they can fall apart. What I try to impart on doctors and nurses [I am managed if only just] is that we need better education. It’s one thing to write a script and send a patient on their way but if that script is low dose and not a solid opiate therapy [12hr meds + break thru + treatment] with solid help there are those that can abuse; there are those that don’t know about the hidden rules “don’t ask for specific meds” [unless you can back it up but that does little too] “don’t quit one doc for another and another” [even if they really suck, stick it out or try to. Having many doctors in a short period of time without doctor shopping makes one look bad]
Relabeling tablet bottles ‘alcohol is lethal with this medication’ that’s what it should say currently it says ‘alcohol may intensify these effects’ [which almost sounds pleasant for those not getting relief or just barely.

And the biggest one?! Docs we know you’re busy people – so are we – please treat us as human beings and we will you as well. Some of us have questions – make longer appointments possible so we can talk.

    >Please don’t lecture us; talk to us.< That is what every doctor and pharmacist needs to hear.

  2. Exactly right! In the 20+ years of working in the field of psychology & addiction; not to mention being a pain patient myself! I believe that addiction is the result of self medicating a underlying mental illness and/or trauma that was there before the addiction & is why they started drugs in the 1st place.
The key is to find out why they started abusing & deal w/ it as it gives them the best chance of staying clean!
The stigma of being just a junkie, allows society to just throw people away like garbage w/o guilt as it is their own fault because they chose addiction!
I very much doubt that any addict dreamed of being a junkie one day! Society is judged by how we treat the most vulnerable ie the sick, the old, the poor, etc… and right now we are doing a piss poor job!!
The ONLY way to regain our humanity is to DECRIMINALIZE ALL drugs, put the money used to fight the useless & cruel war on drugs, into helping those that suffer from mental health problems(which is exactly what addiction is) & treat EVERYONE w/ the same compassion & empathy regardless of their illness!! #painedlivesmatter

    • Really enjoyed your comments. It was spot on with the way many pain patients feel today. Very honest, truthful and and to the point. Thanks.

    • AMEN. I wish I could vote for you for president. Thats the only logical thing I have seen in ages.

  3. Interesting I wonder why CBS shows to edit this part out of the program. Could it be that she is asking for empathy 4 people that for some reason or another began to misuse opiates and heroin?
