CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) – Iowa’s Insurance Division approved big rate hikes Monday for companies offering insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.
The largest hike was for Wellmark, which will raise rates an average of 42.6%. This will be the first year Wellmark will offer plans on the state’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Aetna, which is the largest provider on the marketplace right now, will raise rates an average of 22.6% in January. Gunderson rates will rise 19.8% and Medica rates will increase 19%. Avera, another newcomer to the marketplace in 2017, has asked for a 5% hike.
The division held hearings on the rate hikes in July where consumers expressed anger over the rising insurance costs. Insurance companies say the rate increases are in line with the rising costs of health care with more people now insured and seeking care.
Subsidies will help most of the 55,000 people enrolled through Iowa’s Health Exchange cover some of the costs of the increase. 87% of enrollees now are getting subsidies.

I guess that the Affordable Health Care Act AIN’T so affordable. My experience with it was that the coverage sucked too. As long as our government continues to allow pharmaceutical companies and specialized medical services to RAPE the less fortunate, health care will never be affordable. The rich get richer and the sick and hurting get SCREWED over. I’m with Steve, ” VOTE THE BUMS OUT”. Every single person who suffers from an ailment, every citizen who has to use pharmaceuticals to treat their illnesses, and every family member who is of legal voting age needs to take this all very seriously and vote for the opponent.
The brilliance of these scams, is that the average person has no clue what he or she actually earns. I might be getting paid more benefits than I’m worth. I might be paying more taxes than I cost.
The profit in the scam, consists in taxing me for more than it costs to keep me alive, but scaring me with the threat, that I might not be pulling my own weight.
That enables the perpetrators of the scam to skim something from everybody and get rich on it. If we can’t count what’s being skimmed, we just don’t know.
The principal threat to the scamming system, is the fact that it is legal in this country, for retired police officers to own guns.
What makes them a threat, is that when they were cops, they learned how to discover lies and dig out obscure facts, that crooks wanted hidden. As ex-cops, they retain all of that knowledge and the entire skill set. Multiple politicians from Dukakis to both Bushes to both Clintons have struggled with the fact, that armed ex-cops are hard to control with fear…and bankrupting their pensions will cause legal actions that expose the trail of missing money. Obama made this the centerpiece of his administration, and failed.
The last line of defense, right now, are the corporate media. What CNN and FOX choose to ignore, are the sole remaining scams for which the perpetrators are protected.
The melting polar ice caps re-froze last winter and will do so again, this winter. The money missing from Social Security and Medicare, remains missing.
