Steve,
It would be interesting to find out if the 20% ratio still applies since the denial problem has taken hold. I think it has changed in most pharmacies due to corporate requirements, legalities, and pharmacists attitude. In fact I am not so sure there would be a major sales drop if such a plan was enacted. Security could be enhanced in the one or two hub pharmacies. Pharmacists would have to be screened so only ones that have no problem filling controlled medications would be employed by the hub pharmacies It may be the best stop gap solution until pharmacists are required to fill all legitimate prescriptions by law.
I have been considering the possibility of these types events as I posted earlier. However, many of these type incidents may be solved by the bills being introduced in several states to establish hub pharmacies that will be the only ones in geographical areas that can fill scheduled 2 prescriptions. They would be required to accept all insurances, stock all pain meds, and fill all verified prescriptions. I think this is a great idea and it is coming.
While this idea may seem plausible … normally a pharmacy fills 20%+ controls.. how many pharmacies do you wish to put out of business.. >50% of the independents provide services to population <20 K… How far a drive in a rural area would be acceptable for a chronic pain pt have to make to get their meds? I can almost guarantee you that if such a law is passed… the bureaucrats will give the operation to the same big guys (WAGS, CVS, Rite AID ,etc ) with the same Pharmacists with the same attitude. IMO.. just like everything else bureaucrats have tried to do.. will cause those in the chronic pain community to drop down another circle or two of hell.
No they were both store clerks, he robbed the cash register then took them where ever the safe was. It doesnt say where the pharmacist was. The 2nd clerk was 21 yo. When I worked the 3 letter chain several years ago…the office with the safe was up front and the pharmacy was way in the back of the store. So if the pharmacist was present, he/she may not have known what was happening until it was too late…sad….Another example of when seconds count, the police are minutes aways and camera survellience only is useless. Google Walgreens store shootings…..wonder how much they’re paying out in death and injury compensations
Did I miss part of the story because it doesn’t say anything about his prescription being denied
please reread my post as I stated “if it was”. I am not sure if it is or not, I am stating that I expect more of this and IF it is a denial case they may have a defense.
I looked up this WAG’s on their site .. it is located in the NW area of Clark Co, It is a 24 hr store/pharmacy. It is not clear if the Rx dept was opened on the 25th and this was 04:00 on the 26th.. I don’t know when the Rx dept was scheduled to reopen.. He may have come to rob the Rx dept and became very upset when he found the Rx dept closed.
I do not advocate violence, but I think this is only the begining. I believe that if it was a denial of prescription case it is possible that he may have a good defense of temporary insanity due to withdrawals. I wondered when this would begin, I think pharmacists that refuse to fill legitimate prescriptions are taking their lives in their own hands. I can see where a legitimate pain patient could loose it after being without their medications and being refused at which time they could shoot a pharmacist or employee and maybe get off without penalty. It is a shame, but maybe you pharmacist should think a lot about this before you decide to refuse legitimate prescriptions.
