ERRORS IN LOCAL PHARMACIES
http://www.pharmacyerrorinjurylawyer.com/errors_in_local_pharmacies/
All of us are human… some seem to be more human than others… In the typical chain store Rx dept… is like a “fish bowl”… staff being interrupted by phone calls, each other, impatient pts – sometimes rude and demanding. There are more uncontrolled distractions than there are tablets on the shelves behind them. Add on to that the stress of being 1-2 hrs behind… because you are understaffed… either intentionally or from some one calling in sick. Typically, the Pharmacist has no scheduled breaks meals/restrooms and is expected to work 12-14 hrs at this pace. Yes mistakes happen… because it would appear that paying out money to compensate pts is less expensive than properly staffing a Rx dept to help keep the mistakes to the absolute minimum or at least keep the most serious ones from happening. It is extremely difficult to compensate for a DEATH ! If you think that the Rx dept staff seemed harried while you are waiting to have your Rx filled.. are you just waiting in line to get the wrong med and end up being harmed or worse ?

I was taught counseling using show and tell method..hardley any errors occurred in my stores by me. OBRA 90 counseling rules need to start being re inforced again. I remember pharmacists getting rereprimanded for failing to counsel back in the 90s..this is ridiculous, errors would happen much less is conseling would increase and show and tell methods were used. But the big box doesnt give 2 hoots…its all about getting it out as fast as possible and fill more for the greedy mighty bottom line.
