From the article…

June 12, 2014 — The Oregon State Board of Pharmacy is the 2013 recipient of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) Fred T. Mahaffey Award which was presented during NABP’s 109th Annual Meeting and Conference in St. Louis on May 21. This is the second time Oregon has received the award.

The award was given to the Oregon Board of Pharmacy in recognition of its adoption of administrative rules defining grounds for discipline of drug outlets (pharmacies) that fail to provide a working environment that protects the health, safety and welfare of patients. The new Oregon rules for patient safety resulted from a survey of pharmacists’ opinions conducted by the Board. These rules have become a model for other state boards of pharmacy and will bring national attention to this important issue.

Maybe I have just missed it… but .. I have neither seen nor heard of  a rush by the other BOP’s to emulate this —model for other state boards of pharmacy —  One would think that since this award is by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BOARDS OF PHARMACY.. that the word would easily get back to the rest of the BOP’s..  Isn’t it generally – good business – to strive to emulate a industry leader?

Maybe,,, because a reported 75% of the BOP’s have corporate employees sitting on them… and at least… the largest of the chain stores… seem only to be leaders in PAYING FINES WHILE ADMITTING NO WRONG DOING !… putting patient safety in the forefront … may not be high on their lists…

  1. The State boards have been impotent for so long, I may not even remember the last time the did something positive for the profession. I wonder if a national board would be better or more of the same? I need to educate myself in how one goes about getting elected to the board. I know most just sit term after term.
