Our legal system answer to treating substance abuse and chronic pain ?

stevephoneI got a call from one of my readers today.. and was told the following story about this reader’s friend. This is a “Indiana story”…you know the “bitter pill prgm” of our infamous AG Greg Zoeller  implemented several years ago.. In the interim, Indiana has been the leading state of pharmacies robberies, leads the country in Meth Lab busts, a EPIDEMIC in Scott county of HIV+, Hep B&C forcing Gov Pence to start a clean needle exchange program in that county, and don’t forget the dramatic increase in Heroin use/abuse/death across the state and the icing on the cake was when AG Zoeller “strong armed” the Medical Licensing Board to pass EMERGENCY REGULATION that included mandatory urine testing for all pts taking long term opiates. Which the ACLU took the board to court and “bitch slapped” them because that emergency regulation was a violation of the FOURTH AMENDMENT…  UNREASONABLE SEARCH AND SEIZURE..

Apparently this reader’s friend had been cut off their pain meds by their prescriber and in desperation turned to “the street” to seek pain relief. Apparently both Heroin and Cocaine became the only source that the person could find or afford to help manage their pain.

As would be expected, things went down hill and this person ended up in a rehab center in central Indiana. According to this rehab pt, there was 30 pts in rehab center … and the census was 28 chronic pain pts using Heroin because they had been cut off from their necessary medication by their prescriber and TWO RECOVERING ALCOHOLIC..

This pt is on SS/Medicare disability and is entitled to 11 days of treatment and those on Medicaid get a total of 2-3 days of treatment.  IMO, sounds like another “catch & release” program.

Is this just another example of healthcare controlled and dictated by our judicial system ?

So that you know a METH LAB when you see one…

    • Thank you Mary W. I have talked with her about MMJ. She said in the past she has tried marajiana, but it did some weird stuff mentally to her. Since I have found out about CBD, I will be talking to her about that as a future option when or IF that becomes available in our state as an option of MMJ, since it does not have the psychogenic part of the THC But for now I am asking for prayers for her. She has many legal issues to get through. I haven’t mentioned this, but someone who is we know is being vindictive where she lives, reported her to CPS and they are wanting to talk to her. They no nothing of this, if they find out, her son will be taken away. I am talking to my lawyer to help me deal with CPS if they take him so he can stay with my husband and I as her family has been hot and cold in their support of her and have said they would not let her see her son if they get their hands on him. This is an awful can of worms. I have known her son since he was an infant. My daughter babysat for him I consider him my ‘adopted nephew” He knows CPS may try to remove him from her and he is terrified. So any and all prayers are welcome. This is what it has come to by our government jack booted thugs with their War on Patients and Doctors and Drugs. I hope for the best for those other 27 patients that were with her at the rehab. They will have it much harder being in their 20s and 30s with much more physical damage that can no longer be treated legally by pain management or any other doctor with opioids which is their only option as I see it

  3. An update on my friend who was released from rehab after 11 days because Medicare thought my friend was making great progress so Medicare felt they didn’t need to pay for any more inpatient treatment. My friend was detoxed with Suboxone, is getting Gabapentin and Buspar also. My friend will be doing some partial outpatient hospitalization and then intensive outpatient locally. The pain is still present (a dozen cysts on the spinal cord and 4 or so bulging discs…my friend is fearful of surgery especially of the cysts on the spinal cord..has tried other alternatives which made things worse or did not work) No one has told my friend how long the suboxone therapy will last. The dose is a total of 20mg daliy divided doses. I was told of the 28 chronic pain patients in the unit (my friend is in her 40s) they were in their late 20s and in their 30s and had been involved in critical car accidents or work accidents and had been very messed up physically. Their pain doctors or other doctors decided for one reason or another to drop them from the practices (no longer prescribe opiates or were doctors who had been shut down by authorities and they felt they had no other choice to get pain relief, like my friend, but to go to the black market and purchase pain medications because no other doctors would take them.) When they couldn’t afford the pills, they turned to heroin because it was cheap and some of them had been caught by law enforcement and were looking at legal charges.

My friend is now going to be a pain refugee because of the rehab will probably never ever get pain management again because of the new rules against ever treating former ‘addicts’ of which now because my friends pain was so poorly mistreated in the first place caused everything to spiral out of control and turn to the only choice one felt that was left and now is labeled as such. My friend is required to see a therapist and psychiatrist now as part of the treatment. My friend has been on disability, is a single parent of a 7 year old child, just recently had food stamps cut off under the new rules in our state because the disability puts them over the monthly dollar limit. This is HUGELY INSANE.

I’m proud of my friend for getting things back together but yet very upset at the system triggered it in the first place.

  4. psssss,,,klondyne is getten rich off of our forced torture and genocide,,,if this isn’t another PENNHURST,,, then what is!!!!!!!!!!!!god this infuriates me!!!!!!!!!!!!!maryw

  5. omg,,so let me get this strait,,,because someone has a painful medical condition that requires medicines the rest of their lives,,just Like diabetis, heart, thryoid.asthma, liver, kidneys gallbladder, bladder, prostates, etc medical issues that require medicines for life,,we are thee only ones who have to pee in a cup and be forced into a mental institution,,,and the aclu does nothing?!!!!!!!!!!!GOD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP FIND A F-ING ;LAWYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THIS IS EXACTLY THE KIND OF DATA WE NEED MORE OF PUBLISHED IN THE MEDIA!!!ALL WARS ARE WON IN THE HEARTS OF THE PEOPLE,,SO IF U HAVE A PAINFUL MEDICAL ISSUE U R NOW FORCED INTO A MENTAL INSTITUTION OR NO MEDS,,,,IF THATS NOT PREJUDICE I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,,,DR,GOVERNMENT IS MAKING PAIN MANAGEMENT EXSPENSIVE!!!mary

  6. IMO, they should release all the non violent criminals currently incarcerated and put the morons causing chronic pain sufferers who have to turn to street drugs because of denial of pain relief into those empty cells. Boy do we need to start from scratch in the government.
