Just remember the number in the first paragraph.. of the 64K overdose deaths that they always throw around 66.4% involves opiates… it is claimed that NSAID’s kill 15,000/yr.. but.. a lot of people – in talking about opiate deaths – like to throw out that 64K overdose deaths and never explains that they are not all opiate related deaths..
The authors of this article want a better stat on pharmaceutical grade of opiates vs illegal opiates… what they also ignore.. is that once a opiate gets into the hand of someone other than who it was legally prescribed for.. it becomes an ILLEGAL OPIATE. Doesn’t make any difference if they got them from a friend’sa legal prescription, robbed a pharmacy or bought them on the street… THEY ARE ILLEGAL OPIATES and needs to be counted as such in opiate related deaths.

Lissa – Yes! You are absolutely right! I’m just a regular person w/no educational/ background and I can see that alot of the times people committed suicide and had a legal Rx for pain pills in their system , bc their Dr. tapered them or took tbem off the medication & some meds have a half life and it would show up in a tox screen. Or they use what’s left and do it. We live in a world where we have brilliant minds & I’m sure they can do better with stats! They know, they just don’t care to tell the truth! Its sad! We the people know but the Gov. , Media etc…is telling a whole different story. It’s so sad. Hospitals are even running out of meds now , it’s getting scary! During tne Boston marathon happened I guess then the hospital ran out. We a Cp patients are getting thrown in as drug seeking drug addicts. Ugh. I could go on. This is all just so sad, from us to cancer patients are dying in agony, killing ourselves or living a life of pure hell for the rest of our existence. All we can do is fight with our words , rally & VOTE THE BUMS OUT! Xx Jess
