First Roosevelt University Pharmacy Class to Graduate on May 22 in Schaumburg

About 20 percent of the first graduating class ( 61 total graduates ) applied for residencies at hospitals across the country. Seven students in Roosevelt’s inaugural pharmacy class were selected for residencies, including at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago and medical centers in Milwaukee, West Allis, Wis., Harvey, Ill., and Peoria, Ill.
Remember when… there was 4-5 offers for each graduates.. and one of the offers on the table was how BIG the sign in bonus was and/or what other “sign on perk” was dangled in front of a new graduate ?
You do the math… 40 got job offers… 7 went into a residencies… that means that FOURTEEN.. are leaving with their newly minted PharmD.. without a sold job offer. If you apply those numbers to the some odd 14 K new graduates coming into the market place.. you have some THREE THOUSAND that are still looking for a position after graduation this year.
When you look back to 1972… the pharmacy graduates what would now be turning 65… there was some 6000 – 7000… suggesting that a similar number would be ready to enter retirement and/or near entering retirement. It is estimated that there are some 250 K – 300 K RPh’s out there… so these numbers suggest that the “excessive labor pool” will grow by approximately 1%+
Also the last of the BS Pharm RPh’s will soon be turning FORTY.
