These are the words that I heard from President Obama last night when he addressed the residents of Newtown, CT in regards to having too many of these violent incidents.
I remember from my logic class in college … the Prof saying “never say never and never say always.. because someone will always prove you wrong…”
While such phrases makes good copy and on the surface sounds like a admiral goal.
IMO, this issue is so complex and has so many facets that attaining that lofty goal would necessitate altering the very fabric of our society.
I know that the anti-gun folks are going to say that stiffer gun controls will solve the problem.. What do you do… shut down the entire gun industry.. except those who make arms for military and law enforcement… but what do we do with the reported 200 million guns that are currently own? Can you imagine the outrage in our society if there was a mandate to confiscate all those guns? Let alone how successful such a effort would be.
Are we going to mandate that every individual be mentally evaluated periodically and institutionalize all those that “flunk” the evaluation? How can we be confident that the “bar” at which a person is determined to be “mentally deficient” is neither too low nor too high?
Do we legislate that all media (TV, Movies, Video games) be no more violent than deserving a “PG” rating?
and this is just a start…
My money is on that the first volley will be directed at the Second Amendment …but let’s not forget that people use , vehicles, airplanes, knives and bombs to create human carnage

It will happen again. We live in a culture that doesn’t value human life and we teach young people how to kill with violent video games and movies.
