There are rumors out there in “Rx land” that a certain chain/PBM has instructed its front end managers – NON PHARMACISTS – to routinely go back into the Rx dept and see if the Rx dept staff is not too far behind on meeting the metrics and if they are lagging behind .. that the front end manager is to “NUDGE” the Rx dept to move faster.
First of all, NO ONE has the right to be in the Rx dept without the permission of the RPH on duty … PERIOD !
To expect a front end manager to have any idea of what is going on .. has been going on .. or needs to be done… can properly/adequately evaluate the situation..
I refer you back to the incident in this same chain.. back in July 2011 in the state of NC… when a PIC/RPH and the front end manager got into a pissing match over whether the drive thru window should remain open.. when – on this particular pre-holiday day…the Rx dept was down one tech and volume was at least 50% above normal and the PIC determined that leaving the drive thru window open was increasing the risk of a medication error..
When the whole thing ended up in front of the NC BOP.. the BOP could not do/say anything to the front end manager over his/her involvement in this issue .. because the BOP has no authority over the front end manager.. because the front end manager is not licensed by the BOP.
I guess that the BOP could have referred the front end manager to the AG’s office to be charged with attempting to practice pharmacy or some of other violation of the practice act.. like the AG’s office is going to expend any resources over a single individual violating the practice act.
Back when the Canadian mail order store fronts where opening up.. there were very few AG’s that attempted to do anything about them.. I guess not a big enough “fish” to go after…
IMO… unless there is drug diversion involved.. most BOP’s and AG’s – when it comes to the practice of pharmacy – are catatonic !
