There is so much wrong with this…but.. doubt if it is unique

stevemailbox I am wondering if you could help/advise my adult son. Our family Dr who has been writing for him for 5 years or more, said he rcvd a call from the Mail order service our son uses to get his meds. Then the Dr called us to say that he is referring our son to Pain Management because Our son was Hot lined aka red flagged. Our son had been to PM years ago and really suffered when they gave him the steroid injections. Is there any way to get off the red flag list? The Dr claims that PM can write even if you are on it. We shall see when our son goes. I don’t think the outcome is going to be favorable. Our son survived stage 4 stomach and intestinal cancer and has much trouble eating. Hence he need THC which also helps with the pain. Josh had 3 failed spinal surgeries and a failed shoulder surgery. He SUFFERS all the time… Should he get a lawyer? We are in Florida.

He was red flagged by the DEA at our local Walgreens for the quantity of pills he was getting. 90 of one type and 180 of another. Walgreens called and told me. I called the DEA and spoke to a woman  and she said the agents were out in the field but would call me when they got back. Never got the call. The DEA told WAG that he must be selling or abusing with the quantity he was getting.

So much for much for the new FL regulations that requires a Pharmacist to start looking for a reason to fill a control Rxs… not start looking for a reason not to fill… Likewise, how many times have we heard from DEA agents that “.. they are not doctors … and they don’t want to interfere with pts getting their necessary medications …” ?

IMO.. if the RPh called the DEA… and caused this pt to be “red flagged” based on a decision NOT BASED ON FACTS… but on a decision based on personal biases, opinions, phobias… could that be like the RPh filling a FALSE POLICE REPORT ?

  1. How can anyone fight the feds?I suppose when the suicides are more than their OD deaths is the only time things may actually get rational again.I am astonished it has gone this far!beyond mind boggling! When PM patients cant get neccesary meds, heroin sounds more and more appealing=dont they get it?Stimulating what theyre trying to curb.anyone knows if you stomp on brakes, you’ll slide, crash! No middle ground at all.Obscene!

  2. Matt grant.
    Wesh 2 news

  3. “the agents were out in the field but would call me when they got back”

The government must have invested in laptops so our DEA can sit around in cafes drinking coffee while monitoring doctors’ prescribing habits. God knows they’re doing NOTHING to actually busting the true drug traffickers.

All I can picture in my head, as I read about more restrictions and legislation, is a bunch of Beavis and Buttheads sitting in the US Capitol voting “yea” or “nay” with a bunch of “Uh huh, huh huh” laughs following.

In all seriousness, the more I read, the more disturbed I become. If this young man had stage 4 stomach and intestinal cancer, chances are he now has opioid malabsorption issues and requires more medication than the “average” patient.

Thinking even more about it – it’s none of the government’s damned business how many pills this young man requires to keep his pain levels down. This is like a horrible nightmare that we can’t wake up from. We’re paying these dictators’ salaries, which is even more disgusting.

Emily, same here. 240 tramadols per month for about 10 years with 5 refills. All of a sudden in Jan (my last apt), doctor puts 3 refills on it and tells me to call when I run out. He’ll call me in some more refills – “They’re getting stricter on this stuff” (his words with a look of concern on his face).

I’m scared to death the clinic he works for will either enforce new rules that they can’t treat chronic pain patients with “opioids” (laughable that tramadol was scheduled in the first place) or he’ll cut me down. Insurance co. imposed quantity limits (will only pay for 120 tramadols per month) just this past month.

Even better – before my 6 month check-up, he called in two weeks worth of medication (including my anti-depressant – tramadol written the same way “Take two up to four times a day” – 120 pills) because I was going to run out before I could get in to see him.

It went through insurance, so when I refilled my regular dose of tramadol (240 pills – on the 14th day after the two weeks of medication ran out) after my 6 month check up, I received a letter from the insurance co. telling me that I should talk to my doctor about my “opioid use disorder.”

Are you friggin serious? Where was my letter that I should talk to my doctor about my “ssnri use disorder,” as I’m also physically dependent on Effexor XR 150mgs? I do not know if this flagged me in the system or not, but we’ve got to vote these scumbags who are allowing this out!

  4. So now they can flag just for the quantity? Honestly if you think about how much an average person would take after a few years and that it’s STANDARD to have one long acting and one break through med at the least… His count seems low to me. Plus some people blow through meds quick because of metabolism. I myself am supposed to get more than his entire count of 50mg tramadol a month. This was no issue with the doctor until about two weeks ago when in our state the new laws for checking the database for every little adjustment and refill went into effect.

  5. idk if u got my reply- but here is a link she should print out and bring to the PM . CDC suggests that PM’s NOT test for THC http://www.painnewsnetwork.org/stories/2016/3/18/45g7l80k0vufyjyhb06z2ttgxdj3vk

  6. I see the God syndrome in some Florida pharmacists is alive and well and the DEA is still holding the puppet strings well hidden from all of us ., and never having to stand up or take any responsibility for any of their actions !
Just like spoiled kids that say we don’t have anything to do with this , we don’t even know anything about it ? Like Colonel Flagg in the TV series M-A-S-H , Their like the wind !

    • Yeah, there are a lot of them here in fl!! My cvs of 10+ years informed me that they could no longer fill my meds. because my doc was not in a 5mi. radius!! They said it was from the DEA, I called & they said no, it was CVS! Around & around we go, who’s at fault? NOBODY KNOWS!!
3 yrs. ago, my doc was forced into retirement because a former patient decided to rob pharms. & the GROWN MAN’S mommy blamed his FORMER pain doc. rather that put the blame on her poor, “innocent” BABYMAN!!
New doc comes in & 1st thing he does was to cut my meds. in which he replace the 180mg. of oxycontin (60mgX 3perday) w/ 10mg. of methadone!! I also take 30mg oxycodone X2 for break through that I have to have compounded as pharms. would either not fill it or would price gouge at over $600 for a 30 day supply & what used to cost w/ins. of less than $20 per mo. now costs $200+ for the non covered compound version!!
I was also just informed that if I went back to the pill form that my doc would cut my dose in half, which is how these pharms are getting away w/ over charging as compounds are not usually covered by ins. So because I badly need what little I get, I have to keep getting taken advantage of!!
How can this happen in AMERICA?

  7. What a crock of shit. This family needs to sue the DEA agents involved with this and make it so public that they won’t be able to deny involvement. This is just another example of GUILT BY SPECULATION.
