This is going to be a political post – not going to be PC !

It is estimated that we have some 6 million “hard-core” substance abusers… Most people – outside of our judicial system consider them as having a mental health disease call ADDICTION.

We just changed the definition of what a alcoholism is.. so that we have fewer alcoholics  https://www.pharmaciststeve.com/?p=7785  maybe so we can reduce studies on why alcoholics become alcoholics and reduce the cost of treating alcoholics .. we just now have a lot more people that DRINK TOO MUCH.. I find quite hypocritical in reading posts of

Rx dept staff that have little good to say about anyone taking controlled meds.. but.. state that once they get off work they go home to get some drink(s).  When you think about it.. Alcohol is actually a controlled drug…  those establishments that stock and sell it has to have a state permit to sell it. Same with wholesalers and producers. Some states.. the liquor stores are state owned.. others … the number of package liquor licenses are limited to some ratio of population.

It has been stated that we have some 11 million ILLEGAL ALIENS.. This week our President stated that we don’t have the resources to deport 11 million illegals.. So he used his pen and phone to put them into some sort of legal limbo of being legal in this country.

So we have the resources to deal with 6 million mentally ill people.. by incarcerating them ? .. and we have been doing this for 100 yrs and we still have 1%-2% of the population the same percent as 100 yrs ago… and we are dropping 51 BILLION a year.. that is about $9000.00 for each abuser… every year… and the numbers are changing

Maybe I am missing the point.. but.. isn’t ILLEGAL ALIENS the same as ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE ABUSE ? ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL… isn’t it ?

We have 22 Veterans commit suicide every day.. because the VA is a mess… We have around 1 cop a day killed… and yet our Attorney General felt compelled to travel to Ferguson, MO and get involved with a local cop shooting.. before all the facts were known and the Grand Jury has yet to make a decision as of today.

In case no one noticed… this administration came to power in 2009 and all this crap with controlled meds… started up in 2010 and 2011.. is there a connection ?  Holder is over DOJ and the DEA is within the DOJ.

Is it just me.. or does this administration seem very myoptic as to what is discrimination and what is not discrimination… and which group or subset of our population (legal and illegal) deserves federal intervention on what they feel is significant discrimination ?

And the President’s pick to replace Holder is well known for being a strong advocate of civil forfeitures  https://www.pharmaciststeve.com/?p=7778 It would appear that the mandate by the people in the mid-term election.. made little impact.. Maybe that is why they are called lame ducks.

  1. These highly restrictive laws are archaic. I may even renounce my citizenry if these “LAWS OF falsehoods” go any farther. These retrospective inquisition laws of decree are out of touch with the progressive manner of modern thought. making criminals out of minors for “ZERO TOLERANCE” MUST RETHINK WHAT IS BEST FOR ALL. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAVE LITTLE KNOWLEDGE OF THEIR ZEALOTS HARM OR LACK OF Tx modalities. They coulnt even say , TRIMETOPRIM/SULFAMETHOXAZOLE. I WOULD HAVE GO ON RECORD AS OUTRAGED OVER THE LACK OF MODERN DAY THINKING.AND RUINING LIVES OVER PETTY CRIMES PUNISHABLE BY 10 YEARS TO LIFE IN HELLS JAILS…

  2. I lived in Texas when that state became the first one to pass an Intractable Pain Act, and then I watched as that state’s Medical Board decided to pair up with the DEA and start targeting pain doctors and patients. The chaos spread from there.

I not only watched the evolution of this war on pain patients, I lived it. President Obama has done nothing but continue Bush’s policies — including on immigration, the NSA, etc. It turns out, he wasn’t a democrat after all. But just like Peon said, we only have one political party in this country. However, just because it’s like that now, doesn’t mean it will continue to be that way forever.

Pain patients are not in a war against immigrants or President Obama — we are all deeply and intimately embroiled in the drug war, which began decades ago. People who suffer from addiction are victims too, just like we are. And just like chronic pain, addictions can be managed — with the right treatments.

  3. Wow.
    Out of the mouths of…..

    There is malpractice
    And
    ethical faceplants
    going on all over.

    “Not MY job……
    Who Me?
I’m just trying to stay outta trouble…”

    Etc.

    I learned this weekend.
    The term is :

    Actively Disengaged.

    Leads to cynicism
    Burnout
    Suicidal providers.

It’s criminal what is happening to/in my beloved profession.

We are trained to care for patients
    And
    Occasionally
    Save lives.

    So
We, as a profession, are willing to walk away from patients(people…humans)
    Who are suffering-

    Because of FEAR.
    Do no harm?
How does this apply to these patients?

Would you drive by an accident scene?

Good Samaritan does not apply ?

    Is there ANY scriptural context,
    Ethical subset,
    reasonable common sense

    That
Can support the abandonment of 1/4 of our population
    (Our fellow humans)
Just to avoid the possibility of contributing to the addiction of 6% of the population, which we CANNOT IMPACT anyway?

What kind of insanity us this? We have more trouble walking by the Salvation Army bell ringers this time of year.

Here is a paragraph from the AMA code of ethics:

    <<
    ***
Refrain from denying treatment to your patient because of a judgement based on discrimination
    <>

    I am touched
    Moved
Inspired by the courage displayed today by a courageous woman who prayed with all her being that her beloved auntie Rachel would live.

These are the kind of prayers I hear everyday from these patients-these Refugees from Pain- that present daily in the last 2 years.

Please don’t consider this plea only to be the alarmist view of a colleague in trouble:

    It IS.
    Yes, AND:

    What don’t we know?

  4. I don’t think the current administration is any better or any worse than what we have had and I think they all have been moving in the same direction. We are moving toward a society where all citizens are monitored, where we are constantly at war, and we have ever more restrictions on our lives…such as the DEA meddling with healthcare. America has been moving in the WRONG direction for decades. There is no difference in political parties. We essentially have a one party system because you can tell very little difference between them. America is no longer the good country that tried to help others. We have become imperialistic, a veritable empire bent on controlling the world. Everywhere we go, we leave devastation, destruction, and death. Our politicians are liars and/or idiots. They present a world view to the American people that is a myth. Our news media is nothing more than a government propaganda machine.

  5. Amen! Agree with you 100%. Everyone wants to blame it on the Republicans and there are some that are leading the charge in these new state-by-state prescription drug fiascoes. However, you are spot on, This really didn’t start happening until the Obama administration came in. They are picking and choosing what illegal activities they are going to enforce. I suppose they feel that RX drug problems are more of a middle-class, Caucasian problem so that’s why they are coming down heavy on it. Their reasoning is hard to follow most of the time, democrats and republicans!
