Soon after he was sworn in, President Donald Trump signed a series of executive orders, including one to “ease the burden” of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), according to news reports.

The executive order was not yet on the White House website as of press time. But in a version posted on Twitter, the order first notes the President’s intention to seek the “prompt repeal” of the ACA, and says that in the meantime, it was seeking to offer flexibility to states to create a more “free and open healthcare market.”

The order grants authority to the heads of all federal agencies, including the Secretary of Health and Human Services to “waive, defer, grant exemptions from or delay the implementation of any provision or requirement of the Act that would impose a financial burden on individuals, families, healthcare providers, health insurers, patients, recipients of healthcare services, purchasers of health insurance, or makers of medical devices, products, or medications.”

Essentially, this means that any tax imposed by the ACA would be overturned.

The executive order also directs federal agencies to grant states maximum flexibility in implementing “healthcare programs,” and to encourage the development of “a free and open market in interstate commerce for the offering of healthcare services and healthcare insurance with the goal of achieving and preserving maximum options for patients and consumers.”

During the campaign, President Trump said that he wanted to make it possible for insurers to sell policies across state lines.

One Response

  1. This could end up costing a great deal of chronic pain, cancer and a countless amount of other disease sufferers their health coverage. Granted, this all won’t happen right away but the consequences will be devastating.
The ACA while having some extreme issues is just broken down, not no hope of repairing so it needs to be repealed Bad, but in need of some serious attention to repair it.
First, the part of the ACA that states you must be insured by your employer or the Obamacare or get fined 6 or $800 is bogus. As Bernie Sanders said ” having healthcare should be right and not a privilege” which is exactly correct. It shouldn’t be a requirement by the government to have it or get fined. This action was done to help millions of people who couldn’t afford insurance to, get coverage others to help pay for it.
Secondly, Health insurance should cost and coverage for every consumer should be within a $50 per month average whether a customer is 27 or 57 years old with regulations of minimum and maximums that any company can charge. Yes, have an open market but regulate it so no insurance company can no longer price gouge people for any reason. Also give tax breaks to insurance companies who sponsor wellness programs to keep their customers safe and healthy.
Thirdly, We need government regulated Price caps on Pharmacutical and all other things medically related. All these companies are making money hand over fist, especially the Pharmacutical industry who is knowingly price gouging with up to 2000% increases in some drug pricing. Not a single one of these companies are losing money and the profits they are making are far more than people realize.
Fourthly, Insurance companies will work with employers of 10 and more employees to setup company sponsored or discounted healthcare programs. This type of program will give insurance companies the open market for bidding to industry to be their carrier.
Finally, the government needs to setup a tax based medical savings program paid by ALL employers. This program should NOT be run by a government entity. It should be a private banking system and setup as some sort of mutual fund so the program gains interest as it increases. This fund can only be used for co-pays and yearly deductibles by all CITIZENS. A single percent of every employee’s wage in our country would cover all co-pays and deductibles for current and future medical needs if this money is managed outside of our government vacuumed.

Just adding these stipulations to the ACA would create a better working program. If insurance companies, the Pharmacutical industry and the hospitals and medical groups were regulated and made to stop RAPING the people, the ACA would work very good and everyone could afford healthcare.
