From the article:

TALLAHASSEE — As he promised, Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill on Monday that legalizes the use of a noneuphoric strain of marijuana to treat conditions such as epilepsy, Lou Gehrig’s disease and cancer.

“As a father and grandfather, you never want to see kids suffer,” Scott said in a statement. “The approval of Charlotte’s Web will ensure that children in Florida who suffer from seizures and other debilitating illnesses will have the medication needed to improve their quality of life.”

There is still a larger medical marijuana debate going on this year in Florida. Voters will be asked in November to weigh in on Amendment 2, a much broader medical pot referendum that would legalize marijuana for a range of conditions.

Scott said that he personally opposes legalizing medical marijuana and the ballot initiative.

I guess those ADULTS that suffer from debilitating diseases are OUT OF LUCK ?  We all know how Gov Scott and AG Bondi think about the chronic pain community and those that have mental health issues and are addicted/abusing some substance.

The bill was amended at the ninth hour to stiffen licensing requirements so that only Florida nursery owners with businesses in operation for 30 continuous years will be allowed to grow “Charlotte’s Web.

I wonder who is getting paid back for political contribution ?…  REALLY ??? 30 yrs in continuous business..  I can see some law that would keep out of state people flooding into the market and opening up as growers…  I wonder which growers that have been in business for 30 + yr.. that is looking to sell their businesses and this 9th hour amendment probably increased the price/value of these few growers by several fold.  You notice that – it appears – that this amendment did not prohibit these growers to be sold to outside of the state interests and continuing the business and be “grandfathered ” in to being legal.

If 60 percent of Florida voters approve Amendment 2, it would allow doctors to prescribe other forms of marijuana, including the kind that is smoked, to treat an even wider range of conditions.

It looks like the legislature is “raising the bar” to hinder this from passing.. not just a SIMPLE MAJORITY… but SIXTY PER-CENT majority..  you don’t see any of these politicians needing a 60% majority to get elected…  BECAUSE none of them would get elected …

Maybe those currently in office.. playing these games.. SHOULDN’T GET RE-ELECTED !

  1. Retail pharmacy is missing the wagon on medicinal marijuana. This could be a nice niche area of pharmacy practice. However as long as the morons, knaves and
drug warriors at the federal level keep marijuana as a C1 we will lose it to the growers and marijuana shops. Once again organized pharmacy is WAY behind the curve.

  2. I found this quote interesting “”I’ve watched drug use; I’ve watched alcoholism,” he said during a campaign stop Monday. “I’ve seen how it affects families; I can’t support that.” Yet as we all know alcohol prohibition didn’t work and we know alcohol is more dangerous than pot or prescriptions for chronic pain patients. My impression from this sentence is he lumping all pain medication in with illegal meds. And why is it nursery growers handling this type of marijuana and not pharmacies….it is a drug is it not? Especially if it is only to be dispensed as an oil or a liquid to be used as a vapor and not smoked???? Does that mean these plant nurseries are going to grow it an process it? Then they should fall under the FDA manufacturing and compounding rules and state board inspections should they not? As a matter of fact, any state that allows medical marijuana and Colorado marijuana should be handled by pharmacies not mom and pop growers right? IMHO
