Medicare enrollment for 2025 now open
Next year, Medicare folks are going to get a break when they pay $2,000 out of pocket for medications and get ZERO COPAY after than point.
Have you ever squeezed a balloon? What happens, one part gets smaller and the other part gets LARGER?
I went out to www.medicare,gov website to see what was being offered. I just looked at premiums and deductible. That is the only thing that I can be comfortable that won’t change during 2025.
Come to find out, in 2024 our 12 monthly premiums and annual deductible was LESS than our DEDUCTIBLE WILL BE IN 2025
In 2025, our 12 monthly premiums and annual deductible will be 134% HIGHER. In 2025, together we will be paying > $1,000 more for 12 monthly premiums and annual deductible. Than we had to pay in 2024. Before we get the first $ in benefits.

Steve, which of the plain “Part D” programs do you think is the least unpalatable. ?
I’m completely confused.
In 2023 we used Humana, we had used Silver Scripts for years and switched over to Humana several years ago but for 2024 they nearly doubled their premium but Silver Scripts offered a $9.90/month premium and annual deductible less than Humana.. Right now – year to date – we have spent ~ $600 LESS in 2024 over 2023 on premiums, deductibles & co-pays.
For 2024 we are switching back to Humana. For 2024 Silver Scripts raised their premium and their deductible and Humana lowered their premium and their deductible is similar to Silver Scripts’. The local independent pharmacy we patronize is “in-network” for both and CVS/Caremark/Silver Scripts is not one of my favorite companies. These two companies were – according to the medicare website – the lowest projected overall cost for us for 2025. BUT for 2025, our annual cost for premiums & deductibles is up ~ $1000 over what we paid with Silver Scripts for 2024. I will not patronize a chain pharmacy or a mail-order pharmacy unless I have no other choice. I like our independent and may even consider paying cash for out Rxs to keep patronizing them.
