This is a question that was posed to me by another RPH on another place on the web…
This apparently young RPH… seemingly mistakes my creating a focal point or consolidator of information of what others – especially investigative reporters – are starting to say about our profession .. as hating my beloved profession.
I did not initially contact these investigative reporters… the pts that we serve – or poorly serve – they did.. because we have screwed up. Yes, we are all human and we are all going to make mistakes… but.. is the work environment that most of us are forced to work under… amplifying the imperfections of our humanity?
Maybe this RPH believes that we professionals and the pts that we serve function better when pharmacy functions under the direction of non-practicing pharmacists, non-pharmacists and PBM’s
Are we now more focused on serving “the system” than serving the whole reason our profession exists – serving the medical needs of pts ?
Maybe it is believed that it is a good thing that state and national associations are being more and more financially funded by the donations of large corporations… and the number of Pharmacists belonging to these associations are , at best holding its own,.. while the number of licensed Pharmacists increases. Personally, I don’t think so !
Have the vast majority of Pharmacists … just decided that it is just easier to let someone else to tell them how to practice pharmacy ? However, so far… have they not realized that while we are capitulating to their demands of how to practice pharmacy… we Pharmacists are still the ones… who have total responsibility for what goes wrong in the Rx dept.
It is estimated that we collectively, cause the need for 100,000 new tombstones a year… from us being human or from us being pushed to work/functions at such levels.. that otherwise many of these would not have been needed… or .. are these just a cost of doing business.. or just the cost of generating more and more profits for our corporate masters ?
It has been my observation.. that when the media focuses on some issue… the “bad ” in some industry.. the legal profession will not be far behind… to “right that wrong” or make the person(s) harmed “whole”. Just remember, who has the license and who has the ultimate responsibility/liability for what has gone wrong. You can do a thousands of things right.. you can save hundreds of pts from being harmed.. when you miss that one thing that causes harm or does something that harms a pt.. none of your other “doing good” will be remembered .
I don’t hate pharmacy.. I am very disappointed where pharmacy is at.. and where it is seemingly headed.. As with everything else.. you are either part of the solution or part of the problem… Which side of the equation are you on ?
